Brownie Box Mix or Brownies from Scratch

You can make this recipe from scratch or with a box mix! It's super easy. If you have a box mix then it's only 3 ingredient brownies!

BOX MIX:

  • 1 Box Brownie Mix (any!), 2 Eggs, 1 Can Dr Pepper
  • Mix 2 eggs with Dr Pepper then stir in the brownie mix
  • BAKE: 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done in a 9 x 9 pan

BROWNIES FROM SCRATCH:

  • Mix in Bowl 1: 1.25 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, ⅔ cup cocoa powder, ½ ts baking powder
  • Mix in Bowl 2: 1 can of Dr Pepper with 2 eggs
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients then stir in ½ cup chocolate chips
  • BAKE: 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done in a 9 x 9 pan

Frosted Brownies or Naked

These brownies do not need to be frosted! They are so yummy and good that you won't need to add another thing to them 🙂

I wanted to practice making rosettes, stars, and swirls (not sure the technical name) with frosting. I made three batches of brownies and frosted them all! Pink, blue, and unicorn rainbow!

I was blown away by how easy it was to decorate brownies. I'm a total newbie and yet these look decent! I bought multiple piping tips from Walmart and lots of disposable bags. Watch the video below to see how easy it was to decorate with frosting.

How Do Dr Pepper Brownies Taste

For the most part, they taste like traditional brownies. There's a slight hint of the soda but almost everyone I gave brownies to didn't notice our special ingredient. Oh well.

Diet Soda or Regular

I used regular Dr Pepper in these batches of brownies. But I've used diet soda and even sparkling water in the past with boxed cake mix. All work great!

I liked being able to do from scratch Reduced the sugar, used diet soda. Note that this recipe does not include any added fat or oil but the brownies are very moist.

Yikes. I hate leaving reviews that aren't positive. But we made the scratch brownies, almost missed the baking powder since it's not in the ingredients list. Then the brownies never set. I cooked them an extra 10 minutes covered in aluminum foil to not burn the edges. Set them to cool, still never set. I took a bite off the edge, super sticky and gross. I was so sad to waste a Dr Pepper.
Maybe the recipe from a box mix turns out better. 😢
