Why you'll love it
- Per slice (10 slices): 213 calories, 14 g protein, 1 g fat, 37 g carbs.
- Lazy, 3-ingredient batter-cake mix + egg whites + Greek yogurt (water).
- Works with any cake mix flavor; quick to throw together.

Ingredients
Cake mix hack (makes 10 slices)
- 13 oz boxed cake mix (red velvet used; any flavor works)
- 170 g plain nonfat Greek yogurt
- 180 g egg whites
- 5 oz water
High-protein frosting
- 32 oz Oikos Triple Zero Vanilla Greek yogurt (plain Greek yogurt also works)
- 1.5 oz sugar-free pudding mix (any flavor; cheesecake used)
Step-by-step
Step 1 - Make the batter
Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, whisk cake mix, Greek yogurt, egg whites, and water until smooth-don't overmix.
Step 2 - Bake
Pour into a prepared pan (use the pan style your box recommends).
Follow the box time but start checking 8 minutes early-this bakes fast.
Pull when a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. (Your bake was 28 minutes or less.)
Step 3 - Cool
Cool in the pan 10 minutes, then on a rack until completely cool.
Step 4 - Frost
Stir Greek yogurt + 1.5 oz pudding mix until thick. (Using just 1 oz makes a soft frosting.) Spread over the cooled cake. Slice into 10.

Substitutions & tips
- Flavor: Any cake-mix flavor works (red velvet shown).
- Texture note: This hack is easy and good-a little dense/drier than a full recipe, but with a good crumb (not gooey).
- Compare: For a very high-protein, bakery-style result, your High-Protein Low-Calorie Chocolate Cake is better-but more work.
- Sweetness: Using Triple Zero keeps frosting less tart; plain yogurt is tangier.
- The calories and protein is based on using ALL of the frosting.
Storage
- Cover and refrigerate up to 4 days.

Protein Box Mix Cake (No Protein Powder)
Super-easy cake-mix hack using egg whites and Greek yogurt-no protein powder. 213 kcal & 14 g protein per slice (10 slices). Any cake mix flavor works.
Ingredients
Cake:
- 13 oz boxed cake mix any flavor; red velvet shown
- 170 g plain nonfat Greek yogurt
- 180 g egg whites
- 5 oz water
Frosting:
- 32 oz Oikos Triple Zero Vanilla Greek yogurt or plain Greek yogurt
- 1.5 oz sugar-free pudding mix family size box, any flavor; cheesecake used
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Whisk cake mix, yogurt, egg whites, and water until smooth.
- Pour into the pan style recommended on the box. Bake per box but check 8 minutes early; pull when a toothpick is clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool 10 minutes in pan, then completely on a rack.
- Frosting: stir yogurt with 1.5 oz pudding mix until thick. Spread over cooled cake.
- Slice into 10 pieces and serve.
Notes
- Using only 1 oz pudding mix yields a soft frosting; for firmer, use 1.5 oz (1½ small boxes or 1 family-size).
- This hack is lazy and quick with a good crumb, slightly dense/dry. For the highest-protein showstopper, see your High-Protein Low-Calorie Chocolate Cake.
- plain Greek yogurt makes tangy frosting. I highly recommend using Oikos Triple Zero vanilla greek yogurt for the frosting! Its not tart at all.
- The calories and protein is based on using ALL of the frosting.
